MORRISON WALKING TOUR AND
HORTON HOUSE MUSEUM
The railroad, river and resources brought George Morrison to settle at this wide spot in Bear Creek canyon west of the hogback just as the railroad reached it in 1874.
Tourists flocked to the nearby Park of the Red Rocks, which also attracted entrepreneur John Brisben Walker to the area. The town blossomed as a center of commerce and achieved fame for its dinosaur discoveries-- for a time. Disaster struck repeatedly in the 1930s, the railroad disappeared, and the small community settled into quiet survival.
Join us for this unique walking tour of old and new Morrison.
A working man's town, Morrison has many stories to share, and there's no one better to hear them from than Lila Horton, resident since childhood and second generation town historian. Lila's mother Reenie started the town's first museum, led the effort for National Register designation in 1976, and worked tirelessly to protect the town's older buildings and preserve its historical records.
Lila operates the Horton House Bed and Breakfast (the historic Dr. Luce's residence) and the Horton Museum.(hortonhousebnb.com)
